We became citizens of United States of
America (USA) today, along with 82 others from 32 different countries in the
world. We are citizens of Canada, and so will remain dual citizens.
The Citizenship ceremony was nice and
celebratory. It was great to see new citizens joined by friends & families,
many wearing their traditional attire. The program included showings of 'Faces
of America', playing of 'America, the Beautiful' and the National Anthem 'Star
Spangled Banner'. A welcome message from the current President of USA
for all new citizens was played over video. Messages from US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) leadership focused on America as the nation of immigrants and how new comers have enriched the life and
lifted the nation.
The spirit of Statue of Liberty was
remembered. It also brought us back memories from our trip to the Statue of
Liberty on Liberty Island, New York in July 2011.
One day, there will be no borders,
no boundaries, no flags and no countries,
and the only passport will be the Heart.
